Wireless vs Fiber Optic Networks at College Campuses

I remembered an old question that was asked many times in early years of the first decade in the millennium.
Should we deploy Fiber Optical network for the backbone of our large campus wide network or use Wireless. My answer always tended towards, fiber is good for backbones rather expensive to deploy but it is good to have for backbones.
However I realized in practice that all these upcoming technical college campuses had priorities towards building more buildings rather than investing similar amounts into laying rather expensive fiber and its terminating equipment. So the current advice is get the wireless networks up and running in no time at your campus now rather than wait an year while they dig the whole place up to lay fiber optic backbones. Infact this holds true for getting LANs up and running too.
